The Vetëvendosje Movement has so far secured 52 seats in the Assembly, after counting nearly 50,000 votes received by mail and about 22,000 votes cast at diplomatic missions. The counting process is not yet complete, as there are still about 35,000 envelopes with mail-in votes remaining, as well as approximately 11,000 conditional votes and votes from people with special needs.
According to the current overall results, Vetëvendosje leads with 45.89 percent of the vote. The Democratic Party of Kosovo ranks second with 19.96 percent, while the Democratic League of Kosovo ranks third with 17.04 percent. The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo holds fourth place with 6.89 percent of the vote.
Regarding the distribution of mandates up to this stage, Vetëvendosje has secured 52 seats, PDK 22, LDK 19 and AAK 7.
In preliminary results, Vetëvendosje had received 42.96 percent of the vote, which translated into 48 mandates. Meanwhile, it has convincingly dominated voting in diplomatic missions with over 83 percent of the vote, as well as in postal voting where it secured 70.26 percent.
Based on the progress of the counting so far, and with around 40,000 votes still uncounted, major changes in the composition of the mandates seem difficult to project. To secure an additional mandate, Vetëvendosje will need to maintain support above 70 percent in the remaining postal votes, as well as in conditional votes and those of people with special needs.
The mandates in the Assembly are distributed according to the D'Hondt formula. After the elections held on June 7, the constitution of the Assembly is expected, as well as the election of the President and the formation of the Government. 61 votes are needed to create a parliamentary majority and form the executive, while a quorum of 80 deputies is required to elect the President in the first two rounds of voting.
