The Iranian's equalizer was followed by a gesture that has divided opinion on social media, as the debate continues over the safety of the Iranian national team at the World Cup...

Iranian striker Mohammad Mohebi headed the equalizer in the 2-2 match between Iran and New Zealand, but the way he celebrated the goal attracted the most attention, causing numerous reactions on social media.

The incident comes at a time when debate continues over the safety of Iranian national football players, who are normally participating in the World Cup taking place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

According to reports, Iran's players are staying in Mexico and traveling to the United States only for the Group 7 matches, returning immediately for security reasons.

In this context, Mohebi celebrated his goal in the 64th minute with a gesture that, according to some commentators, resembled an imitation of a gunshot. His action sparked a strong debate on social platforms, with some fans calling it provocative and asking FIFA to review the case and take disciplinary measures.

However, it is not clear whether the gesture was intended to symbolize a weapon. FIFA and the Islamic Republic of Iran Football Federation have been questioned about the incident, while the player himself has denied any such interpretation.

"I wanted to thank all the Iranians who live in Los Angeles and create a wonderful atmosphere," Mohebi said. "This celebration came to my mind and I did this gesture for all the fans. It's just a celebration."
