The first round of direct negotiations between the United States and Iran that took place today in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, ended after about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

After the meeting, both delegations withdrew for internal consultations regarding the progress of the process and the current situation in the region. US officials have emphasized the importance of diplomatic dialogue to reduce tensions in the Middle East.

US Vice President JD Vance expressed optimism that these negotiations could bring significant changes to the region.

"The process is taking place with the full authorization of President Donald Trump, who has given our delegation a clear mandate to pursue diplomatic solutions to complex issues affecting regional security and the international community ," Vance said.

He described Iran as "a factor of instability" in the Middle East, but stressed that dialogue remains the main path to avoiding further escalation of tensions.

This meeting is considered a concrete first step in efforts to normalize relations between the two countries, after years of high tensions. Further details on the topics discussed or the deadlines for future rounds are expected to be made public in the coming hours or days.
