
The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, is paying an official visit to Uzbekistan at the invitation of his counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
During this visit, President Begaj will also participate in the International Investment Forum 2026, an important international event that aims to strengthen investment and international economic cooperation.
The Head of State was welcomed in Tashkent with an official ceremony by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
This is the first official visit of a President of Albania to Uzbekistan since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1993, and comes at a time when, over the last two years, relations between the two countries have entered a new, dynamic and promising phase.
During the meeting with President Mirziyoyev, President Begaj expressed his belief that now is the time for Albania and Uzbekistan to elevate bilateral relations from a formal and friendly level to that of concrete cooperation, which produces tangible results in areas of common interest.
The Head of State noted the importance of sustainable, fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation. This visit, he emphasized, will mark the beginning of a new and promising chapter in relations between the two countries.
The meeting discussed concrete opportunities for deepening relations in areas aimed at political, economic, trade cooperation, energy, agriculture, tourism, digital society and innovation, education and culture.
The President of the Republic also stressed the importance of concretizing the agreements under discussion by the institutions of the two countries and strengthening cooperation in international organizations.
The President appreciated the strengthening of friendship and cooperation through direct communication between the citizens of our two countries:
"We must strengthen the friendship between the two countries, make our citizens create relationships between them, make our students discover other cultures, make our professionals exchange their knowledge, make our businesses create successful partnerships, make our citizens discover new destinations and get to know each other through mutual respect."
In this context, the President appreciated the importance of a direct air connection between the two countries.
The Uzbek side promised to open their embassy in Tirana.
President Begaj also acquainted his counterpart with the steps taken by Albania towards full membership in the European Union and the importance of the union's expansion in our region.
"For Albania ," the President emphasized, " this is a goal, a strategic objective and a mission."
"We are working hard to complete the reforms necessary to achieve membership standards in every area. We are ready!"
