The Self-Determination Movement (LVV), led by Albin Kurti, has secured its 51st mandate in the Kosovo Assembly, as the counting of diaspora votes continues. The new result brings the winning party closer to forming a government on its own, a situation similar to that after the last elections.

According to the data so far, after counting about 20 percent of the postal votes, Vetëvendosje has received over 69 percent of the votes in this process. This is the third additional seat that the party has won from diaspora votes, after securing 48 mandates in the preliminary results from polling stations inside Kosovo.

The latest mandate won by the LVV came at the expense of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), which fell to seven seats from the eight it had previously projected. The previous two mandates won by Vetëvendosje had reduced the representation of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).

In the overall results so far, Vetëvendosje leads with 44.6 percent of the vote. The Democratic Party of Kosovo ranks second with 20.5 percent, while the Democratic League of Kosovo holds third place with 17.26 percent. The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo has received just under 7 percent of the vote.

The increase in the number of Vetëvendosje mandates from diaspora votes shows that the party has managed to maintain almost the same level of parliamentary representation as in previous elections, despite the decline in the total number of votes won. This decline is mainly related to the lower voter participation in the electoral process.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced that around 85,000 envelopes containing votes from the diaspora have been withdrawn. So far, data from around 11,000 votes has been processed, which means that the final result may still change as the counting continues.
