Prime Minister Edi Rama has shared details from the meeting held with French President Emmanuel Macron, describing it as another important step in strengthening the political dialogue between Albania and France.
During the "Flasim" podcast, Rama announced that he discussed with the French president the progress of the strategic partnership between the two countries, as well as the support that France provides to Albania's accession process to the European Union.
According to the Prime Minister, part of the conversation also included developments related to the future of the European Union and the role that France plays in the enlargement process. He stressed that Paris remains an important partner in advancing Albania's European perspective, underlining the need for new mechanisms that will accelerate the integration process.
“Following, for the Notes of the Week, I have highlighted the visit to Paris and then to Gdansk. First, in France, at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron, in a meeting that was another stop on the path of an increasingly close political dialogue between Albania and France, built over the past few years. We discussed the progress of the strategic partnership projects between the two countries. Of course, we mentioned the issue of France's support for Albania's accession process to the European Union and discussed the steps taken so far and the steps that are in progress, as well as the developments related to the future of the European Union, where France, as one of the countries that has a significant weight in relation to enlargement, has an important role in terms of pushing forward an idea that the European perspective of Albania and other negotiating countries is indisputable, but, on the other hand, new mechanisms must be found, which was also written in the joint letter of President Emmanuel Macron with Chancellor Friedrich Merz. On the other hand, in "At the end of the week, I went to Gdansk, Poland, to the conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine, where not only support for Ukraine, but the entire European security architecture in the coming years was discussed. My position, ours, Albania's, is well-known; it was reconfirmed, while it was also the right place, at the right time, to underline that the reconstruction of Ukraine and the further rapprochement of the Western Balkans, including Moldova and Ukraine, to the European Union, should not be seen as two separate processes, but as part of the same strategic approach for a more stable Europe, for a more united Europe, for a more secure Europe ," he said.
