Prime Minister Edi Rama is facing a wave of protests by Albanians at home and abroad, while he is being asked to resign. The protests started in Tirana, which are on their 6th day, and today they have also spread to the cities of Durrës, Korça, Elbasan. But not only that, protests have been organized in Munich and Berlin, in front of the Albanian embassy, by Albanians living and working in Germany, while on Saturday a protest has been announced in London, also by Albanians living and working in the United Kingdom. Another protest will be held in Bologna, Italy on June 7, while protests are next in line in Milan, Brussels, New York, Toronto and Skopje.
In the diaspora, protests will take place in front of Albanian embassies and consulates in several European countries and in North America.
"Resign" is the call addressed to the Prime Minister by citizens who seem to be tired of 35 years of policies and who today have lined up against the political class that has governed and is governing the country, keeping the political monopoly under control, in government and opposition.
What is special about the protests that are being organized and seem to be spreading not only in Albania, but also in countries where there are Albanian communities, is that they have brought together young men and women.
"May the drop that fills the glass be blessed" and "You burn the youth, today the youth burns you!" are some of the messages conveyed by the protesters, who hold Edi Rama responsible for the country's misgovernance, but also Sali Berisha, whom they consider a "crutch" for the Prime Minister's power.
The latter has stated that he has no intention of resigning, while in response to demands for his resignation, he states that he has a contract with over 800,000 Albanians, who voted for the Socialist Party in the last elections, and gave him a 4th consecutive mandate.
But on the other hand, the message he receives from the protests is: Rama go, a message that has been articulated against him before, but it seems that in recent days, what makes the reaction special is the civic resistance. / Pamphlet /
