A 32-year-old man from Struga has been arrested by police after being caught transporting 1 kilogram of heroin, which was hidden in the rear tire of a van on the Bulqizë-Librazhd road.
According to the investigation, the narcotic substance was obtained in North Macedonia and illegally entered Albania through the green border. It was then handed over to an accomplice in the country, with the aim of distributing it on the market.
The police operation codenamed "Trajectory" was finalized after several weeks of investigations by anti-drug structures in Elbasan. During a thorough search of the vehicle, officers discovered heroin hidden inside a backpack placed in the van's spare tire.
Liridon Gega, 32 years old, resident of Struga, and Alban Biçaku, 45 years old, resident of Durrës, who was suspected of waiting for the cargo to be dumped on the Albanian market, ended up in handcuffs .
During the operation, 1 kilogram of heroin, the Fiat van used for drug transportation, two mobile phones, and a large amount of money in lek, euros, and denars were seized.
Both arrested are accused of the criminal offense of "Trafficking in Narcotics", committed in collaboration, while investigations continue to identify other persons involved in this criminal activity.
"The investigative structures of the Elbasan DVP finalized the operation codenamed "Trajectory", as a result of investigative actions pursued with special methods and supervised by the Prosecutor's Office at the Elbasan Judicial District Court. A case of trafficking of the narcotic substance Heroin, from the Republic of Macedonia, to Albania, was cracked. 1 kg of this substance, a sum of money (in lek, euros and dinars), 2 mobile phones and a van, in the rear tire of which a bag with the narcotic substance was hidden, were seized.
2 citizens are arrested in flagrante delicto. Arrested are the citizen from the Republic of Macedonia who had obtained the Heroin and brought it into Albania, through the green border, as well as the citizen who received the substance in Albania, with the intention of selling it.
As a result of an investigation using special methods, supervised by the Prosecutor's Office at the Elbasan Judicial District Court, to document the criminal activity of two citizens suspected of transporting heroin, trafficked by RMV, by vehicle, specialists from the Narcotics Investigation Section, in cooperation with specialists from the Operational Support Investigation Section, finalized the operation codenamed "Trajectory".
The suspect vehicle, in which the citizen from the Republic of Macedonia, LG, and the citizen AB, were traveling, was stopped for checks, on the road axis "Bulqizë–Librazhd". From the detailed checks, 1 kg of heroin was found in a backpack, hidden in the rear tire of the vehicle (van), which was suspected to have been obtained by the citizen LG, in North Macedonia.
The investigation suspects that the narcotic substance was trafficked by this citizen, through the green border, to Albania, where citizen AB was waiting for it with the intention of selling it. At the end of the procedural actions, citizens LG, 32 years old, resident of Struga, and AB, 45 years old, resident of Durrës, were arrested in flagrante delicto for the criminal offense of "Trafficking in narcotic substances", committed in collaboration.
Also, the suspected narcotics, the vehicle (van) type "Fiat", 2 mobile phones, as well as 40,000 lek, 50 euros and 290 denars were seized as material evidence. The procedural materials were referred to the Elbasan Prosecutor's Office for further action," the police announced.
