Dhionis Dervishaj, 30, was detained by authorities at the Port of Durres after four precious stones suspected to be diamonds, with an approximate value of 4,400 euros, were found on him during a search.
According to official sources, the stones were discovered during checks on vehicles and passengers arriving from Ancona, Italy. Their origin is not yet clear and authorities have launched verifications to determine their authenticity and source.
The seizure was carried out as part of a joint operation between Durres Customs and State Police structures, which have increased controls at the maritime border crossing.
During the operation, authorities also seized an electronic device for detecting precious metals, found in the trunk of another vehicle coming from Italy, as well as a suspected quantity of narcotics, hidden in the driver's cabin of a vehicle.
All materials have been referred to the competent structures for further investigative actions, while analyses are ongoing to accurately determine the nature of the narcotic substance and the authenticity of the seized stones.
