The Republican has repeatedly threatened to unleash massive military force against Iran, only to back down at the last minute due to potential progress in peace negotiations.
US President Donald Trump has announced new attacks on Iran for tonight, via a post on Truth Social.
The US president stressed that the US's goal is to occupy Kharg Island and other energy facilities in Tehran, "just like we did with Venezuela"!
"The United States will hit Iran (whose Navy, Air Force, Radars, Anti-Aircraft Systems and every other form of defense, along with most of its offensive capability, are GONE!) VERY HARD TONIGHT," Trump announced.
Trump also warned that the US would seize Kharg Island and other oil infrastructure in Iran.
"At some point in the not-too-distant future, we will take over Kharg Island and other oil infrastructure and take complete control of their oil and gas markets, just like we did with Venezuela, which works out very well for both Venezuela and the United States of America. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump added.
Kharg, which the US president is referring to, is a small island in the Persian Gulf, which handles approximately 90% of Iran's crude oil exports.
It is noted that yesterday, after the end of the American attacks on southern Iran, the American president, in statements he made on Fox, emphasized that "if Iran does not reach an agreement with us by tomorrow (Thursday), then we will crush it!"
Given the warning Trump gives in his post, it is not clear whether his threat is another tactic by the US president to convince Iran to make concessions at the negotiating table.
