The 37-day-long protest of citizens in front of the Prime Minister's Office has been joined by powerful voices from the diaspora. An Albanian citizen who lives and works in Brussels has climbed the steps of the podium on the boulevard, conveying a highly critical message about the way Prime Minister Edi Rama presents Albania's situation to European officials.
He invited his compatriots to have patience and perseverance, emphasizing that Albania does not lack any wealth compared to Europe, but only justice and the right leaders.
The speaker brought to attention the stark contrast between the propaganda being made in EU offices and the reality that Albanians face every day in their country.
"I come from the diaspora, from Brussels. The entire European state administration is there. Uncle Edi Rama also comes there and speaks on behalf of the people. O people, how many things are done in your name, even 'highness' speaks in your name! It can lie for a while, but it never lies to an entire people together! Therefore, unity and cooperation are salvation," he said to the applause of the crowd.
Taking inspiration from life in exile, the protester encouraged the movement not to give up, saying that European standards can and should be built within Albania, without the need for youth to leave.
"If we are all together, we have patience and attitude... I have come because I love my country. I want to congratulate you on continuing to maintain this pace, to stay! What does Europe and the world have more than Albania? They have nothing, only discipline and other standards. We have the opportunity to create them! Why not move forward in our country? We only lack the right justice and the right people," he said.
