The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Klodiana Spahiu, has declared that Prime Minister Edi Rama will not resign, despite the demands of protesters who have been holding rallies in front of the Prime Minister's Office for 37 days.
Invited to the "Off the Record" show on A2 CNN, Spahiu said that Rama has received a four-year mandate from the citizens and will fulfill it.
" I understand, for example, that the lawyer (Indrit Sefa) says that Edi Rama should resign today. But I also tell the lawyer that Edi Rama has received the mandate for four years and will not withdraw, because 850 thousand people have mandated him, who have trusted him to continue for four years ," said Spahiu.
She emphasized that the Socialist Party has the obligation to govern throughout the mandate received from the citizens, while also commenting on the protests taking place in the country.
According to Spahiu, the protests have set a new standard of civic response, but he added that part of the dissatisfaction came as a result of the lack of information about the project that led to their launch.
" The Socialist Party has been mandated to govern for these four years. We have a very important task. These protests have set a new standard, as they started, for environmental protection. Now, at least it makes me think in a cold and clear mind, that at the moment when young men, women, citizens thought that a project was being done there, an investment was being made there, Albania was being sold there, so everything created by disinformation, there were undoubtedly socialists who very rightly came out to protest to see where it was sold, where the project was given, where the project is ready, when it is being built. Despite the fact that it could be a very good investment for Albania, at the first moment that the youth has no information, that would undoubtedly be the reaction, and not only of the youth ," Spahiu declared.
