Naun Shundi will be taken to his final resting place on Friday. In honor of the actor who passed away today, tributes will be held tomorrow at "Arturbina".
In almost five decades of creativity, Shundi left his mark on stage and screen; from roles in “Death by Order”, “House with Two Portas” and “Vizita e damës plakë”, to the plays he himself wrote and staged. After the collapse of the National Theater, he did not retreat like many others – on the contrary, he set up a chamber theater in the courtyard of his house and called it “Zonja e Bujtinës”, a refuge for young authors, for Albanian dramaturgy and for the public that does not give up.
His last play, “The Man of the Forest”, dealt with profound issues of existence, life and death – a clear reflection of his personal battle with the disease. After being diagnosed with skin cancer, he was treated first in France and then at the QSUT, with support from the Ministry of Health and Culture, but above all with the solidarity of the public and the artistic community.
