American actor Tom Cruise now holds the title of a daredevil who performed for the latest episode of the “Mission: Impossible” series. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Cruise now holds the record for “parachute jumps by an individual,” with his number of jumps reaching 16.
“Tom doesn’t just play action movie heroes – he is an action hero!” said Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, in a statement. “A large part of his success can be attributed to his absolute focus on authenticity and pushing the boundaries of what a leading actor can do.”
Cruise performed the jumps while filming "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning," the eighth film in the popular action series in which Cruise has starred since 1996.
During a video posted on the official YouTube page of Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the film, Cruise is seen discussing the logistics for this maneuver with his coordinators, saying: "I'm going to put it to work. If this thing twists while it's burning, I'm going to spin around and burn."
He later said in the clip that he wanted to be "very smart, I'm not saying take risks," adding with a wry smile, "We don't take risks... obviously."
The video features Cruise parachuting out of a helicopter with his parachute burning 16 times in a row, while the theme song “Mission: Impossible” plays in the background. This latest stunt is far from the first daring stunt Cruise has performed. In addition to his performance around the Olympics last summer, the actor is known for performing his own stunts in his own films.
