The two young men who tragically lost their lives this Wednesday afternoon in the Rana e Hedhur area of Shëngjin have been identified. The victims are Leonid Alia from Fushë Kosova and Jetmir Çopa from Prishtina.
According to the Police, the alarm was raised around 16:30, when it was reported that several people who had entered the sea to bathe were in difficulty and were unable to reach the shore due to bad weather and waves created by strong winds.
Border Police services, Lezha Police officers, and emergency teams were immediately deployed to assist them.
" At around 16:30, the Police services received a report that in the Rana e Hedhun area, in Shëngjin, several citizens who had entered the sea to bathe, as a result of the waves caused by the strong wind, were in difficulty and at risk of drowning.
Immediately after receiving the notification, Border Police services, the services of the Lezha Local Police Directorate, as well as emergency services, went to the given address.
Thanks to the immediate response of citizens with Jet Skis, in cooperation with the Police services, it was possible to retrieve 5 citizens from Kosovo from the sea, who were urgently transported to the Lezha Regional Hospital for medical assistance.
According to preliminary information from the Lezha Regional Hospital Emergency Department, 2 of the citizens have lost their lives, while the other 3 citizens are receiving medical assistance.
"The investigative group, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, continues its actions to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident ," the police statement said.
