While the energies of law enforcement structures were focused on Lezha, an even more shocking attack occurred in Tirana. Four people traveling in a luxury vehicle, two of whom were minors, were ambushed under a barrage of gunfire.
"They survived because God helped them, even the bullets did not touch their vital organs, and it was the quick intervention of their family members who took them to the hospital, the doctors then intervened at the military hospital and further in Rome ," said lawyer Alban Qafa.
"In that case, it was their luck that they saved the minors and there was no loss of life, because it would have had more human fatalities and the procedural part is a different situation ," said lawyer Ermal Hamataj.
The 34-year-old driver Arens Stafa, 19-year-old Kian Mullaj, two brothers Marko Demiraj, 17, and 11-year-old Dior Demiraj were injured in that attack. The two minor brothers were in critical condition. They miraculously survived thanks to rapid transportation to the hospital and medical assistance in Italy.
"Because of the law or because of the procedure, we are facing a murder within the framework of a structured criminal group, there is nothing more to add in this specific case ," said the lawyer, Ermal Hamataj.
" Shooting a child aged 11-17 is like killing children and it is beyond human nature to kill children. The motive that led them must be a very serious one, since the revenge was also very brutal, shooting at children," said lawyer Alban Qafa.
From the way this attack was organized, investigators have concluded that everything was well-organized. From the data so far, investigators have concluded that at least 3 people participated in the April 17 attack, where the minors were injured. Two who were riding a motorcycle, and another who helped them escape.
According to data from security camera surveillance, the motorcycle with the two perpetrators who shot the luxury Benz came from Arbana. They positioned themselves near the exit of the Grand Ring Road in Shkozë and waited there for several minutes. When they spotted the “G-Class” vehicle, they opened fire in bursts.
" From the information that circulated in those days, the first clue was that of a mistaken target, but when you look at other details of the scene, when you have 50-60 bullets there, it makes you doubt that we are not dealing with a mistaken target ," said journalist Xhevair Zhabina.
"The perpetrators who committed the incident against the minors, their family's driver and their friend, in the Mercedes G Class, the Mercedes that the Demiri family, the owner of Pelican Security, was driving, were people who were guarding them and observing them," said lawyer Alban Qafa.
The investigative team told Inside Story that from surveillance of security cameras, part of the route of the perpetrators' motorbike, which was found burned down in the village of Fikas in Mulleti, has been built. The scientific police laboratory also has some DNA traces obtained from the place where the perpetrators were waiting for their target.
"In these cases, with the commission of the crime, and then with the burning of the vehicle and the weapons that were used, the destruction of possible evidence is also carried out. And this is exactly what happens immediately, it is instantaneous, a few minutes separate the commission of the crime from the destruction of the evidence," said lawyer Dea Toçi.
"From the communications I have had and the meetings they have had, I have been told that the events are not related to each other, but nevertheless it is a preliminary investigation, a later connection may be found ," said journalist Xhevari Zhabina.
The Lundra assassination was initially suspected to be related to the murder of Gjovalin Prendit in Lezha. One of the suspicions was that the target was mistaken.
" The police cannot possibly have real-time information, that the event happened now and then the police say, look, there was a targeted mix-up or this event is related to another one," said lawyer Ermal Hamataj.
"The children may have been confused with their father, or their uncle, but it could mainly be their father, this is one clue, but the target was definitely the Demiri family, the reasons must have been the parents of the two children who were injured ," said Alban Qafa, lawyer.
Suspicion began to take shape from a detail that at first might have seemed coincidental: the vehicle that was shot was identical to a car used by the wife of Roan Brahimi, the son of the victim in Lezha, executed in Athens a year earlier. The targets also had similarities. Both families lived in the same neighborhood, in areas that overlapped in their daily routes.
"The specific case was a leak of information by the police, hypothesizing that she may have been confused with Sidorel Prendi's wife, but the lady in question used an Audi, not a G-Class ," said Alban Qafa, a lawyer.
"In this specific case, the police made a mistake. I can't say whether they made a mistake on purpose or because someone else wanted them to make a mistake," said lawyer Ermal Hamataj.
Investigators working on this sensitive file have so far dismissed the connection between the two incidents. However, this does not rule out the possibility of target confusion.
"There may be a mix-up, since a considerable amount of bullets were spilled in the back seat, this is also the reason why the driver managed to continue traveling by car, so there are non-fatal wounds, not serious wounds that would have left him in a place that would have taken away his ability to drive the vehicle," said lawyer Alban Qafa.
The testimony of Rohan Brahimi's wife also helped in this regard. She was questioned by investigators and stated that she never felt in danger./ InsideStory
