Who are the Albanians caught in the £1 million cannabis farm; criminal

Two Albanians who were previously deported from the UK have returned to the island, running a £1m cannabis 'farm'. They were arrested by police during an operation in Yorkshire.

Fatos Demucaj, 34, and Daniel Kabali, 22, who had returned to Yorkshire illegally, were caught when police raided a Woolston Warehouse building in Bradford in April, British media reported.

Police forcibly entered the locked warehouse where 600 cannabis plants were discovered, which were almost ready to yield two 50 kg crops.

Each crop was worth £500,000, meaning that in total, the plants grown on this farm were worth £1 million.

They had even made minor renovations to the building to support their drug operation, including adding an "extra chimney" and tampering with the electrical systems.

Demucaj was caught while trying to leave the building, while Kabali, his accomplice, was arrested on the third floor of the building.

Prosecutor Jordan Millican told Bradford Crown Court on July 9 that both men had previously been deported from the UK and had returned illegally to run their drug operation.

Kabali was deported to Albania after serving a 15-month sentence in a juvenile institution.

Meanwhile, Demucaj had entered the country illegally in 2013 before agreeing to return to Albania just a few months later.

He returned to the UK in 2015 and was subsequently sentenced to 28 months in prison for intentional possession of Class A drugs.

Demucaj was deported a second time in May 2023, but returned again. Both men pleaded guilty to violating deportation conditions and producing cannabis, with Kabali receiving a four-year prison sentence.

Demucaj was sentenced to a slightly longer sentence of four years and three months. After serving half of their sentence in the UK, they will be automatically deported to Albania.
