Marjeta Karaj, who was accused of the murder of Menduh Kurtdeda, has been released from prison, along with her son, Besmir Karaj, who has been declared an international wanted person, and her accomplice, Gazmir Ngota.
According to reports from TCH, her release was ordered after the Court of Appeal in June overturned the decision against her and ordered the Tirana Court to re-examine the investigative file for the massacre of the elderly Menduh Kurt Deda, who eight years ago was kidnapped, brutally raped in a neighborhood of the capital and then burned with gasoline in the Dajti area.
The appeal overturned the 22-year prison sentence for the defendants, including the woman, her wanted son, and Gazmend Ngota.
The latter states that the victim was hiding from Luljeta due to a debt.
"We saw him with Besmir and he called his name as he took him into the car. When he asked Luljeta what to do with him, she said: 'Get rid of him.'"
Sentence from the Tirana Court: Marjeta Karaj - 22 years, Besmir Karaj - 25 years and Gazmir Ngota - 22 years.
Macabre crime
According to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, the investigations revealed that Marjeta Karaj, employed as a secretary at an NGO, had ongoing disagreements with the 61-year-old regarding the financing and management of the association's funds.
In 2017, her son, citizen Besmir Karaj, and his friend, defendant Gazmir Ngota, at the request of citizen Marjeta Karaj, took the deceased in a car and transported her to Kodër Shupal.
There they tied him up and pressured him to pay back a debt that Marjeta claimed the deceased owed. When the victim denied the debt, the two men set him on fire.
The body of Menduh Kurtdeda was found on May 16, 2017 in a place called Kodër Shupal, Zall-Bastar, Tirana.
