The search for the double shooting in Saranda that occurred on July 17, 2025 continues to include brothers Ramadan Zoto alias Ramadan Canaj, 43 years old, Erjon Canaj, 36 years old, and Klaus Jaçaj, 31 years old.
Police accuse Ramadan Zoto (Canaj) of being the person who wounded Gëzim Hajdaraj, 33, and Ernest Lama, 25, with a gun. After receiving first aid at Saranda Hospital, they were sent for more specialized treatment at the Trauma Hospital in Tirana.
It is learned that the cause of the incident was a conflict over the possession of a piece of land. The two injured from Kamza, Gëzim Hajdaraj and Ernest Lamaj, owned a piece of land in Saranda, along the coastline, adjacent to the property of the two Canaj brothers.
The injured claimed that the two Lama brothers had occupied part of their land. They had requested a meeting to clarify the situation. The parties met three days earlier, on July 17, 2025, but the situation spiraled out of control to the point of using weapons.
Who is Ramadan Zoto?
Ramadan Zoto alias Ramadan Canaj, is considered a highly dangerous person in Albania and Greece. His name is first mentioned as a witness in an incident in 1997, when a young man from Saranda clashed with a police officer in the city's market. In April 2005, he shot and killed Albanian Pushkin Kuspa in Athens, and 3 years later exchanged fire with the Greek police.
In Greece, he is also involved in armed robbery. In 2019, he was caught with a stolen vehicle, weapons and drugs in Athens, and after being released from prison, he moved to Saranda. Here, he was prosecuted once for “disturbing public peace” and later arrested for “assault in the course of duty.”
Along with Zoto, the police have also announced the search for 2 more people for "supporting the perpetrator of the crime." One is his brother, Erjon Canaj, 36, and his friend Klaus Jaçaj, 31, both with different criminal records.
