An evening of tension and violence in the heart of Santeramo in Colle, where two men, a 46-year-old and a 25-year-old of Albanian origin, were arrested by the carabinieri of the local station on charges of damage, resistance and violence against a public official.
The events took place on Saturday evening along the central street Corso Tripoli, where numerous calls to 112 reported a fat man who, after blocking traffic, was breaking the windows of a car parked near a bar.
When the police arrived, the situation quickly deteriorated. The man, apparently under the influence of alcohol, began to react violently against the carabinieri with insults and threats. Attempts to calm him down proved futile: one of the soldiers was punched in the face. At that point, the Arma operators were forced to use pepper spray and the tools provided to contain the man's rage.
But the attack did not stop there. A second man, a compatriot of the first, arrived at the scene and, instead of cooperating, participated in the attack, also hitting the carabinieri with fists and slaps. Only the arrival of reinforcements, a patrol of the Altamura Carabinieri and agents of the Local Police, made it possible to arrest the two individuals, who were taken to the barracks for the necessary checks.
The violent act reportedly originated from a traffic dispute that degenerated into an act of vandalism, culminating in the brutal attack on police.
At the conclusion of the preliminary investigations, the two men were declared arrested and placed under house arrest, awaiting a summary trial.
It should be emphasized that the procedures are in the preliminary investigation phase and that the guilt of the arrested will be proven only at the end of the trial, in full compliance with the principle of the presumption of innocence.
