Former President of the Constitutional Court, Holta Zaçaj, has been appointed First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Albania. On February 20, she was elected a member of the Supervisory Board of the BoA and today she has been appointed as the number two of the state bank.

" In accordance with Article 44 of Law 8269/1997 'On the Bank of Albania', as amended, upon the proposal of the Governor, the Supervisory Council elected and appointed Ms. Holta Zaçaj to the position of First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Albania ," the announcement states.

Holta Zaçaj caused a strong debate within the judiciary due to the interpretation of her mandate, i.e. when her time as a member of this court ended. She even turned to the Venice Commission, seeking an interpretation regarding when the mandate of a member of the Constitutional Court began and ended.

Zaçaj also repeatedly demanded that the Assembly implement the decisions of the Constitutional Court, as well as creating controversy at a distance regarding what she considered to be political pressures. However, upon handing over her mandate as a member of the Constitutional Court, Zaçaj rushed to compete for a seat on the Bank of Albania, as soon as the vacancies were announced by the Supervisory Council.
