Oil in global markets falls below $100, Transparency Board "sleeps"!

Although the price of oil in the world fluctuates and decreases, in Albania the decreases are not reflected at any time...

Markets have been volatile throughout the Iran war, with the price of oil in particular moving up and down due to the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's busiest oil shipping lanes.

Stock prices are directly linked to developments in Iran and statements by Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. A recent tweet by Trump suggesting that the end of the conflict is near has resulted in oil prices falling below $100 per barrel.

However, although the price of oil in the market undergoes changes and decreases, in Albania the decreases are not reflected at any time. The smallest increase in global markets turns into noise from fuel companies, which demand price increases. On the other hand, the state that has entered as a regulator with the Transparency Board is totally non-existent.

Considering the fact that Albania pays the most expensive oil price in the region, the Transparency Board meeting should be held at least once a day, in order to reflect prices from global markets. Added to this is the fact that the Government has not intervened to reduce excise duty, which shows the irresponsibility and indifference of the state to ease the burden on citizens.

This situation has brought back a familiar phenomenon, where citizens of border areas are crossing into neighboring countries to supply their cars with cheaper diesel and gasoline.

Unlike the domestic market, where oil has reached around 218 lek per liter and gasoline 175 lek, in North Macedonia prices are around 143-150 lek per liter for oil and around 134 lek for gasoline. In Kosovo and Montenegro, fuel is also sold significantly cheaper, making the difference significant for Albanian consumers.
