The normative act for the reduction of excise duty by 20% on fuels is approved. Minister of Finance Petrit Malaj, while announcing the approval of the normative act, said that it aims to protect Albanian citizens from the financial effects produced as a result of the conflict in the Middle East.

But Malaj added that the act also aims to protect the state budget and the country's economy at a critical moment like the one the world is facing.

The normative act provides for a 20% reduction in excise duty if the retail price, determined by the Transparency Board, goes above 220 lek per liter for diesel and above 200 lek per liter for gasoline.

The measures will be in force until the international situation stabilizes, ensuring the protection of citizens, the state budget and the national economy in this critical period.

A few days ago, during a press conference, the head of Finance said that the mechanism for reducing the price of oil will come into operation at the moment the board determines that the retail price will be 221 lek per liter of oil and 201 lek for gasoline.

" At that moment, the decision is made that the selling price will be 221 lek minus the 20% excise tax reduction, so it will be 213 lek. This will be done on a daily basis, when the price goes above 220 lek, we will have a reduction in the retail price by 8 lek. When the price is below 220 lek, it will be the price that the Board has determined ," said Malaj.
