Zohran Mamdani's victory in New York is more than a local event. It is an example of the resurgence of a generation that no longer believes in elites, but in itself. A message that, if heard, could also shake Albanian politics...
In the metropolis that leads the world's economy and culture, New York, something happened that goes beyond the limits of a local election: a radical socialist came to the helm of the richest city in the world; a young politician of mixed Iranian and Indian origin, born in Africa, Muslim and progressive.
His name is Zohran Mamdani, and for many he represents what seemed impossible in politics: the victory of a generation that no longer asks about race, faith, or caste, but about new values.
Mamdani is not a product of the system; he is a reaction to the system.
Everyone opposed him: big business, political lobbies, traditional parties, big media.
Over 30 million dollars were spent on propaganda to stop him.
But they did not succeed; because they did not have just one candidate, but an entire generation: Generation Z.
This generation, born between the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, has often been described as the generation of anxiety, social networks, short attention spans and hazy ideals.
But Mamdan’s election showed the opposite: this is a generation that refuses to be a spectator.
It does not seek leaders who speak for it, but people who understand its concerns: rent, livelihood, environment, equality, dignity.
A generation that did not vote for “biography” or “party”, but for the message and the way of communication.
It is ironic that America’s political elites, accustomed to controlling the narrative, were overthrown by a group of people who had not yet graduated from college.
But in essence, this is the circle of political life: any caste that does not willingly relinquish power loses it in revolt.
A revolt that this time comes not from poverty, but from boredom and the moral emptiness of the old system.
Paradoxically, Donald Trump also won on the same spirit: with an electorate that wanted to overthrow the status quo.
Mamdani is the other side of the same coin; the overthrow of the system from the left.
Both came as a wake-up call for a political class that no longer understands its own youth.
And now, let's come to us.
In Albania, Generation Z, the children born at the beginning of the new century, remains invisible in politics.
Neither the old parties have given them space, nor has society recognized their voice.
In every election, they are a negligible number in the statistics, a generation that is not voted for, because no one talks about them.
But in reality, they are the future that is being prepared in silence.
If one day this generation wakes up and realizes that politics is not the property of the "fathers of transition", the change will be as profound as the one that happened in New York.
It doesn't matter if it comes from the left or the right, what matters is that it doesn't come from the old.
Because as Migjeni said:
"The children of the new century were born to destroy the old order and create a new world."
And perhaps this is the bell coming from New York:
the younger generation is learning to no longer wait for permission to speak.
And when it does, it will not seek to be represented, but will represent itself./ Pamphlet
