MP Marjana Koçeku, who announced her 'political divorce' with the Socialist Party, has conveyed a message to Prime Minister Edi Rama from the European Parliament regarding Albania's integration process, emphasizing the importance that Chapter 27 of the negotiations, which relates to the environment, will have.
Through a post on social media, Koçek announced that he held a meeting with MEP Thomas Waitz, with whom he discussed the political situation in Albania, the environmental challenges brought about by the protests against the government, as well as the process of membership in the European Union.
"With MEP Mr. Thomas Waitz, one of the most prominent figures of the European Parliament in the protection of the environment and biodiversity.
As a former member of the Delegation for the EU-Albania Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee, Mr. Waitz knows well the Albanian reality and the challenges our country faces.
He was among the first MEPs to support Albanian environmental causes and gave them an international voice. His contribution to our country continues to remain extremely important.
During the meeting, we discussed the political situation in Albania, environmental challenges and the European integration process, especially Chapter 27 of the negotiations which is directly related to the environment.
I expressed my gratitude for his continued attention and support, as well as for his willingness to strengthen Albania's position alongside the countries of the European Union", writes Koçek.
In her response, the MP underlines that issues related to environmental protection will be an important part of the negotiation process with the European Union, implying that progress in this area will be monitored by European institutions along Albania's path towards membership.
