Canadian rapper Drake will be the focus of a new undergraduate course at Concordia University, where his career and impact on music, pop culture and the global entertainment industry will be analyzed in academic terms.
Starting in the fall 2026 semester, students will be able to take the course titled "Drake: Media, Myth, and Masculinity," which will examine how the Toronto artist has built his public image, influenced the music industry, and become one of the most important figures in contemporary pop culture.
The course is part of the "Hip-Hop: Past, Present and Future" program and will be led by rapper and lecturer Yassin "Narcy" Alsalman, also known for his previous lectures dedicated to Kanye West.
In addition to Drake's artistic success, students will also analyze the development of his record company OVO, the relationship between art and capitalism, the influence of record companies, the phenomenon of artificially increasing listening on music platforms, as well as the challenges faced by artists in the modern music industry.
Through this program, the university aims to use Drake's figure as a case study to better understand how fame, media, pop culture, and the music business intersect in the digital age.
