At a time when nations struggle to strengthen democracy, development and international reputation, Albania has chosen a strange path: political spectacle with grotesque nuances. Under the government of Edi Rama, sarcasm has become a strategic weapon, a form of alternative diplomacy, supported by memes, irony, AI ministers and mustaches with permanent smiles for the cameras.
The Washington Post's latest piece, which ironically asks "Can Albania join the EU with humor?", is much more than a playful headline. It is an accurate reflection of the absurd reality we experience: a country that tries to mask systemic failures with digital facades and clown figures positioned as political alternatives.
Florjan Binaj, a comedian turned candidate for mayor of Tirana, is just the latest product of this ugly reality. In a country where politics has become an ugly theater, it is only natural that comedians seem more sincere than those in parliament. But this is not a solution; it is a symptom.
Meanwhile, Edi Rama, a prime minister who doesn't part with either the CNN screen or the photos with Macron and Scholz, continues to behave like a Balkan showman who sells Albania as a creative startup with digital ministers, but who fails to fill the prisons with real thieves. He shows the world the bunkers as a tourist attraction, but not the areas of unemployment, exodus and concreting that has turned cities into cement fortresses.
In every international forum, Rama appears with coarse humor, arrogant jokes, and a demeanor that makes him look like a Balkan version of Boris Johnson, only without the vocabulary.
At the Davos forum, he tried to make fun of Albanian emigration by mentioning "talent export", while Albania is experiencing the most massive youth exodus in decades.
At the Berlin summit, he proudly declared that "Albania is a success story" for the EU, without mentioning that we are ranked among the most corrupt countries on the continent according to Transparency International.
While other Balkan leaders like Vučić or Kurti play with strong cards of realpolitik and international lobbying, Rama chooses to become a meme, hoping that the world will forget to ask about the number of SPAK files that affect his government. This is his game: to mock, to relativize, to slide on the absurdity, while not accounting for anything.
He laughs at Albania's problems, mocks the opposition, and plays the role of reformer while the country sinks into institutional corruption and controlled justice. He no longer invites debate; he performs.
Albania has a people that deserves dignity, not show. A country that seeks EU integration, but not through memes or mocking press conferences, but with strong institutions and real justice. Until then, let's laugh, because if you don't laugh, you'll miss crying./ Pamphlet

Kishte dhe kritikë dhe akuza për korrupsion. Por si gjithmonë sapo e vërteta tentonte të nxirrte kokën mbi ujë dhe të thoshte ja ku jam, dora e zgjatur e 'familjes' e zhyste prap në ujë. Më në fund e vërteta notoi nën ujë dhe në brezin e tretë nxori kokën dhe tha: 'më zhytët por nuk më mbytët'. Parat e korrupsionit nga trioja u zbuluan në EKUADOR. DHE U KONFISKUAN. Kjo që shkruaj nuk është sajesë. Por fakt .

Pershkrim i sakte, por me habisin keta gazetar ,kur vendi po shkon ne funde dhe ketij populli nuk i ngacmohen nervat hiç, perse nuk beni thirje per tu çuar ne protesta si ne serbi? Vetem beni shkrime qe dhe nuk lexohen. Po nuk u ngritet ju njerzit qe keni lapsin dhe fjalen kush ka per tu ngritur. Ju duhet te bashkoheni dhe ti beni thirje ketij populli qe ti zgjohet nervi. Se per keta politikan qe kemi ta neverisin, keta jane vetem per te punuar per vete, te vjedhin sa me shume. Po su çuat ky vend mbetet i pashpres.
