Albin Kurti's triumph and the opposition in 'knock down'
Albin Kurti /

Vetevendosje triumphs with Spartan organization, a clear strategy, and the vote of the diaspora, while the opposition fails without leadership, vision, and political narrative...

Albin Kurti's victory in the December 28 elections leaves no room for doubt. It is an absolute, profound and politically brilliant victory.

Vetëvendosje, not counting postal votes or the diaspora that voted from abroad, currently has more than 430 thousand votes. That is, about 70 thousand less than Albin Kurti's maximum target of 500 thousand votes.

Almost twice as many as PDK, which has around 183 thousand votes, and three times more than LDK, which has not even received 118 thousand votes.

It was a carefully prepared victory, with a clear objective and an almost Spartan organization throughout Kosovo. Vetëvendosje emerged as the leading party in almost all municipalities in the country, with the exception of Drenica, which remains a stronghold of the Democratic Party of Kosovo.

But why did Albin Kurti win so decisively?

First, Kurti is the clearest and most politically formed leader in Kosovo. He has built a party that, in organizational terms, functions as an almost military organization on the territory, ensuring presence and control in every administrative unit.

Vetëvendosje is a party that, from an organizational point of view, resembles the Socialist Party in Albania: it works day by day, neighborhood by neighborhood and house by house.

Politically, Kurti built a winning strategy after a year-long inability to form a government, despite having emerged as the leading party in previous elections. With a targeted objective, he accurately identified the segments from which he would receive votes to secure this victory.

As can be seen from the results, Vetevendosje has significantly damaged LDK, taking votes from Kosovo's oldest party, and has also absorbed part of the electorate of Fatmir Limaj's Initiative.

But Albin Kurti's decisive success was given by the Kosovar diaspora, which returned en masse for the end-of-year holidays and voted for Vetëvendosje in a significant way.

This happened for a clear reason: Vetëvendosje is the party with the most consolidated public discourse. “Don’t give up” was the main slogan, which clearly translated the diaspora’s sentiment that Kosovo should not retreat in the face of international demands.

This result was achieved despite the fact that Kurti faced almost the entire West: the US and the European Union.

Another important factor in this victory was the lack of clear and convincing leadership in the opposition. The opposition failed to transform itself into a governing alternative, even though in theory it had the numbers to do so.

Lumir Abdixhiku missed the chance of political life. Instead of benefiting from Kurti's consumption, he failed completely. Abdixhiku did not have a clear political strategy and acted tactically in an arrogant manner, failing to keep the party together, which shrank even further.

PDK leader Bedri Hamza, a bureaucrat skilled in the field of economics, failed to convince the electorate that he is a political leader. In the campaign, he talked about salaries, pensions, indices and technical elements, but offered no ideas or challenges on major political issues.

In terms of numbers, PDK remains at the level of votes it received in the last two elections, showing that, after Vetëvendosje, it is the most stable party in Kosovo. It maintains its strongholds in Drenica, Prizren and Gjilan, but in the rest of the country it ranks mainly as a second force, while in the Dukagjini Plain it is often even third or fourth.

None of the PDK leaders has managed to replace the figure of Hashim Thaçi from the 2007 elections, who built alliances and coalitions that made PDK the ruling party. Hamza remains a wise official for second place, as was also seen in Mitrovica, where he lost in a photo-finish.

Meanwhile, Fatmir Limaj and Ramush Haradinaj, dialectically, are heading towards a reasonable political retirement. They have nothing more to give to the political scene. If AAK intends to survive as a significant political force in Dukagjin, it must build new coalitions and a stronger political narrative.

Albin Kurti finally eliminated both of these representatives of the old political elite./ Pamphlet

Kush dredhojë i tregojë vëndin. Me garë. Albin Kurti e ka të shtrënjtë Shtetin dhe nuk bën pazare.Integriteti territorial dhe sovraniteti janë vija të kuqe. Opozita korri atë që mbolli. Bedri Hamza sipas perceptimit tim , pas 4 vjetësh do jetë Kryeministri pasues i Albin Kurtit.
