Ukraine and Sweden are moving forward with a deal that could see Kiev buy up to 150 Gripen E fighter jets. Sweden's defense minister said Stockholm could finance part of the deal with military aid.
The two countries signed a long-term cooperation agreement last month that includes the possibility of exporting fourth-generation fighter jets.
While the cost of the deal has not been disclosed, Swedish manufacturer Saab sold four of the aircraft to Thailand in August for $563 million.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's defense minister said Kiev asked Sweden to begin training Ukrainian pilots for fighter jets as soon as possible.
This comes after Volodymyr Zelensky and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson signed a letter of intent on air capabilities.
"We have started work on providing Gripen to Ukraine and we expect that the upcoming contract will allow us to provide no less than 100 such aircraft ," Zelensky said last month.
