Donald Trump has reacted immediately after former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's decision not to run for re-election to Congress in 2027.
The Republican president has called this "a great event for America" and has not spared strong words towards his political rival.
" The departure of Nancy Pelosi is a huge event for America. She was evil, corrupt and focused only on what was harmful to our country. She quickly lost control of her party and never regained it. I am very proud of her for trying to impeach me twice, unsuccessfully. Nancy Pelosi is a highly overrated politician ," Trump declared on his social network "Truth Social."
Pelosi, a key figure in the Democratic Party and one of Trump's fiercest opponents, announced her decision in a video message to voters in San Francisco. She said it was time to make way for a new generation of Democratic leaders after more than three decades in Congress.
