The political crisis within the British government has deepened after a series of resignations that have increased pressure on Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Health Minister Zubir Ahmed became the latest official to resign, stating that the British public has "irreversibly lost confidence in Starmer as prime minister."
In his letter published on Platform X, Ahmed criticized the government's leadership, stressing that the cabinet's achievements are being "faded and undermined by the lack of values-led leadership."
His resignation came just hours after three other ministers announced their departure from the government. The first was Communities Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh, who wrote in a letter to Starmer that Britain needed change, but “the public does not believe you can lead that change and neither do I.”
Jess Phillips then resigned as Minister for Defence and Social Security, stating that "actions speak louder than words."
A little later, Alex Davies-Jones also announced his departure from the government, asking the British prime minister to "act in the interests of the country and set a deadline for his departure."
According to British media, more than 80 Labour Party MPs have already called on Starmer to resign immediately or announce a timetable for his withdrawal from the leadership of the party and government.
However, reports indicate that over 100 Labour MPs have signed a statement in support of the prime minister, arguing that "this is not the time for a leadership contest".
For his part, Starmer declared during a cabinet meeting that he would "continue to govern" and insisted that no contest has been opened for the leadership of the Labour Party.
According to British media, the latest developments are considered the biggest political challenge for Starmer since taking office as prime minister.
