US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the United States has full control over the Strait of Hormuz, despite ongoing tensions and the blockade of the waterway in recent months.
During a hearing at the US Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, Hegseth stated that the US controls the entry and movement of ships in one of the most strategic maritime corridors in the world.
"Ultimately, we control the strait, because nothing is coming in that we don't allow to come in. And believe me, Iran knows very well that they can't break that control. This is something that seriously concerns them," Hegseth declared.
His comments come at a time when the Strait of Hormuz has remained virtually blocked to commercial shipping for more than two months, due to the escalation of conflict and military tensions in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important sea routes in the world, as a large portion of global oil and gas supplies pass through it.
Hegseth's statement is seen as a strong signal to Iran and its allies, as the US continues to increase its military presence in the region amid fears of a further escalation of the conflict.
