Two people have died after a shooting incident in the city of Offenburg, Germany, as police have launched a large-scale operation in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, cited by the German newspaper Bild, shots were heard near an apartment complex at around 8:00 a.m., and police were immediately notified.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a dead man and a seriously injured woman near the garage of a building. Police provided first aid to the woman, while emergency crews and a doctor continued to treat her. However, she died a short time later in hospital.
So far, authorities have not clarified the circumstances of the incident, the identity of the possible perpetrator or the motives for the attack. A police spokesman told Bild that a weapon was found near the crime scene, while the identities of the two victims remain unknown.
The area has been cordoned off by a large police force and investigations are continuing with the participation of forensic specialists. According to the police, there is no danger to citizens and, based on preliminary information, the incident appears to have involved only the two victims.
