A hidden photo from 2015, included in the recently released files on Jeffrey Epstein, shows the discredited financier having a friendly dinner with some of the most powerful figures in global technology, including Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg.
According to documents cited by Forbes , on August 2, 2015, Epstein sent an email to his friend Peter Attia, now a prominent CBS News contributor, informing him that he would be having dinner with Musk, Zuckerberg, and Peter Thiel that evening. The next day, Epstein sent himself a photo showing Musk, Zuckerberg, Zuckerberg's wife Priscilla Chan, and other guests gathered around the table.
The photo, now part of the US Department of Justice files, has brought renewed attention to Epstein's ties to the tech elite after the materials were released on January 30.
The dinner was first reported by Vanity Fair in 2019. It was hosted in Palo Alto by Reid Hoffman, the founder of LinkedIn, in honor of MIT neuroscientist Ed Boyden. According to Vanity Fair, Musk allegedly introduced Epstein to Zuckerberg during the meeting.
In an August 20, 2015 email to billionaire Tom Pritzker, Epstein described the dinner as “rampant.” However, in recent years those present have been quick to downplay the significance of the meeting.
Reid Hoffman, 58, expressed “deep regret” on Sunday for having had contact with Epstein after his criminal conviction. “I will continue to demand the full release of the Epstein files. The victims deserve justice and those responsible must be held accountable,” he wrote on the X platform.
Zuckerberg's representatives told Vanity Fair in 2019 that he "met Epstein only once, by chance, at a dinner party not hosted by Epstein, and there was no further contact after that." The same stance was repeated this week to the New York Post.
Musk has also denied any association with Epstein. In a January 31st post on X, he wrote: “I have never been to any Epstein parties and have consistently called for the prosecution of those who committed crimes with him.”
However, the published documents show that Musk had written to Epstein on December 25, 2012, asking him to invite him to parties in the Caribbean or elsewhere.
"I really want to get into the party life and let loose," he wrote in the email.
The publication of these materials also sparked a public clash between Musk and Hoffman, with mutual accusations of lies and concealment of facts.
Jeffrey Epstein was convicted in 2008 of recruiting a minor for prostitution and served 13 months in prison, long before he began circulating in the highest circles of the technology industry.
