US President Donald Trump met with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky during the NATO summit, where they discussed the war and peace talks with Russia. Meanwhile, during his speech, the former US president revealed that Russian leader Vladimir Putin had expressed a desire for a meeting in Moscow. While explaining that he had tried to put himself in the Ukrainian president's shoes, Trump directly asked Zelensky if he was willing to go to Moscow for talks.
Zelensky's response was immediate and caused loud laughter in the hall. With sharp irony, the Ukrainian leader described this possibility as very difficult and dangerous, due to the fact that there are many Ukrainian drones there, bringing to mind the constant air strikes that the Ukrainian military has carried out on Russian territory.
After this joke, Trump confirmed that it is indeed difficult to travel to the Russian capital in these conditions. The situation was accompanied by interventions from the journalists present, who began to ask if there would be an invitation for President Putin to Washington.
Excerpts from the conversation between the two presidents:
Donald Trump : President Putin said, "I would love to meet you in Moscow." And I said, "I don't think..." you know, you have to put yourself in his shoes. I don't know if he would go to Moscow. He probably would. Would you go to Moscow?
Volodymyr Zelensky : It's difficult. There are a lot of Ukrainian drones there, that's true. It's dangerous.
Donald Trump : He doesn't want to go... You're right. No, it's hard... it's hard to go to Moscow.
Journalists : Would you invite President Putin to Washington?
