US President Donald Trump said he is considering canceling a series of concerts planned for the 250th anniversary of the United States' independence, after some of the selected artists refused to participate.
Instead of concerts, the Republican president said he might give a major public speech and organize a rally with his supporters.
On Friday, Bret Michaels, the lead singer of the rock band Poison, became the fifth artist to pull out of the "Freedom 250" concerts, scheduled to take place in Washington from June 25 to July 10.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he is considering replacing the concerts with a speech and a mass rally, claiming that his presence would attract a larger audience than the artists themselves.
"I am the number one attraction anywhere in the world, the man who draws far more people than Elvis Presley at the height of his fame, without even needing a guitar," Trump wrote.
The statement comes amid controversy surrounding the organization of activities for the 250th anniversary of American independence, as some artists have chosen not to associate themselves with events sponsored by the Trump administration.
