Ukrainian unmanned systems forces announced that they had destroyed two Russian Tu-142 aircraft and an Iskander ballistic missile system during a drone strike carried out on the night of May 30.

The news was announced by the commander of the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert Brovdi, known by the nickname “Magyar.” According to him, the targets were hit at a military base near the port city of Taganrog, in the Russian Rostov region, on the shores of the Sea of Azov.

The operation was carried out by the First Center of Unmanned Systems Forces, a unit specializing in attacks deep inside Russian territory against military targets and energy infrastructure.

The Tu-142 is a maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft used by the Russian Navy. It is based on the platform of the Tu-95 strategic bomber, which is often used by Russia for massive cruise missile strikes against Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the Iskander system is considered one of the Russian military's most important tactical weapons. It can launch ballistic missiles with a range of up to 500 kilometers and has played a key role in attacks on Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure.

Separately, Rostov region governor Yuri Slusar confirmed that a Ukrainian drone strike caused fires at a fuel depot, an oil tanker and an administrative building in the port of Taganrog. He also said that two people were injured in the attack.

Taganrog is located just over 40 kilometers from the border with the occupied part of Ukraine's Donetsk region and has been a frequent target of Ukrainian drone attacks. Explosions in the area were also reported on May 27.

Over the past few months, Ukraine has significantly increased the use of domestically produced drones to strike military and infrastructure targets deep inside Russian territory.
