A missile attack from Iran has hit the Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait, causing minor injuries to five people and significant damage to US military equipment, including an MQ-9 Reaper drone.
According to a source familiar with the incident, quoted by Bloomberg, the Kuwaiti air defense system managed to intercept a Fateh-110 missile, but its fragments fell within the territory of the base, causing damage and injuries to military personnel and civilian contractors.
One MQ-9 Reaper drone was reportedly completely destroyed, while at least one other was seriously damaged. The value of these aerial vehicles is estimated at around $30 million each.
The incident occurred at a time of high tensions in the region, when the administration of US President Donald Trump was considering an agreement to extend a fragile ceasefire between the parties, which has been in place since April.
The president himself had earlier stated that he was ready to make a "final decision" on the agreement, but the meeting at the Situation Room ended without an official announcement.
The attack reportedly follows a series of previous clashes in the region, including the downing of Iranian drones and bombings on Iranian territory. The conflict has seen significant consumption of US arsenals, including high-precision missiles and advanced air defense systems.
According to data from the US Department of Defense on Operation "Epic Fury", 14 American casualties have been reported so far.
It is also said that Iran has launched over 1,850 ballistic missiles since the beginning of the conflict on February 28, while the Fateh-110 missile is considered a short-range weapon with high strike capacity.
