Marcelo Bielsa has resigned as coach of the Uruguay national team, immediately after the team's elimination in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
In his farewell conference, the Argentine coach did not spare criticism of the players, responding to Uruguayan media reports that the players had complained that the tactical video analyzes were too long and boring.
Bielsa denied these claims and said he had reduced the duration of the tests to the minimum to suit the team's demands.
" It's a shame that professionals, who earn millions, are unable to stay focused for more than 10 minutes. The conversations I have had with the team and the videos have never lasted more than 10 minutes. This happened after I was told that they should be even shorter and divided into different days, so as not to overload the players' concentration.
I talked to them about this issue and they told me they had an information overload. So I reduced everything. However, before the match with Spain they told me again that they felt overloaded with information.
"Why did I say I left nothing to Uruguay? Because I am convinced that no one has paid attention to what I have said during these three years. No problem, it is okay like this ," declared Bielsa.
Bielsa's departure comes after a three-year period in charge of Uruguay, which ended with the disappointment of an early elimination from the 2026 World Cup and open controversy between the coach and the national team players.
