What is Vučić up to? He announces his decision to resign.

Vučić reiterated that he intends to step down from the presidency, but said that it has not yet been decided whether Serbia will hold only early presidential elections or simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has stated that he plans to resign from the post of president within three to four months and announced that the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) will organize a large rally in Belgrade on June 27, where it will present part of its election platform.

In an interview with Prva TV, Vučić reiterated his intention to step down from the presidency, but said that it has not yet been decided whether Serbia will hold only early presidential elections or simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections. According to him, the final decision will be made by the competent state institutions.

He also announced that the SNS will hold a rally in front of the National Assembly building in Belgrade, where it will present the name of the electoral list, campaign slogans and part of the political program for the upcoming elections.

Vučić's statements come after months of student-led protests, which began after the collapse of a railway station shelter in Novi Sad, an accident that killed 16 people. The student movement officially called for early parliamentary elections and announced its intention to participate in them with its own electoral list.

Earlier this month, Vučić had stated that parliamentary elections would be held “right after the summer.” Following the announcement of his possible departure from the presidency, expectations are circulating in Serbian public opinion that he could head the SNS electoral list as a candidate for prime minister.

During the interview, the Serbian president accused his political opponents of not having a clear political program and focusing mainly on personal attacks against him. He said his opponents are trying to portray him as an “inhuman” figure in the eyes of the public.

Vučić also criticized N1 television, claiming that the channel's audience is being exposed to "lies and untruths" and that he has been prevented from appearing on its screen.

"I am not allowed to appear there because people would be able to hear what is true and what is not," Vucic declared.

On the other hand, N1 has denied claims that the Serbian president has been banned from participating in its programs. According to the television, Vučić has been invited repeatedly in recent years, but has refused all invitations.

The debate intensified after an episode in which MEP Sandro Gozi publicly challenged Vučić to join him on a scheduled show on N1. The broadcaster then decided to cancel Gozi's appearance, arguing that determining guests and the editorial agenda is the exclusive responsibility of the editorial staff and that mutual invitations between politicians are not an acceptable practice for the media.
