The Vice President of the Democratic Party, Luciano Boçi, delivered a mobilizing speech at the National Assembly of the Democratic Party, describing the meeting as an important political moment for the future of the country and the opposition.
During his speech, Boçi said that the Assembly is not a routine meeting dictated by the statute or political calendar, but a response to the situation that, according to him, Albania is going through. He emphasized that the country needs change and that the Democratic Party must take responsibility for leading that process.
An important part of the speech was dedicated to the role of the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha. Boçi praised his figure as closely linked to the history of the Democratic Party, Albanian democracy and political developments in the country.
"The history of Sali Berisha is the history of the Democratic Party. The history of Sali Berisha is the history of Albanian democracy," Boçi said before the Assembly delegates.
The DP vice-chairman declared that the democrats should launch a "new political march", focused on freedom, justice and the return of the state to the citizens. According to him, the opposition should not aim at power-sharing or political revenge, but at strengthening institutions and representing the interests of citizens.
Boçi stressed that Albanians expect courage, determination and hope from the opposition, while warning that the period of excuses and waiting must end.
At the end of his speech, Boçi called for greater political organization and engagement, considering this as the path to achieving the Democratic Party's objectives in the future.
Boçi: Honorable Chairman of the Democratic Party, Mr. Sali Berisha! Dear democrats, dear democrats! Ladies, gentlemen, young men and women! Today we are in an Assembly, not simply a party Assembly dictated by the statute, determined by political protocols and even less is it a simple electoral routine.
This is an Assembly dictated by the evil times in which we live. It is an Assembly that plundered Albania demands, it is an Assembly that revolted Albanians demand and it is an Assembly that united democrats demand today. Therefore, today, we are faced with our responsibility, we are faced with our conscience, we are faced with our clarity, we are faced with our honesty, but at the same time we are faced with our history. Our life, of all of us who were in this hall and are still in this hall, is our history. Our history is the history of our large and small family.
And no one can erase or hide their history, no matter how good or bad it may be. And even more so, the history of our great family, which, despite all its small sins, is a great history, cannot be erased or hidden. And in all of our stories, there is a story of one person that stands out above all. And this is the story of Sali Berisha. Sali Berisha's life is truly the story of his life. And the story of his life is the story of his family.
But there is one thing, the story of Sali Berisha is the story of the Democratic Party. The story of Sali Berisha is the story of Albanian democracy. The story of Sali Berisha is the story of this country. And dear friends, in this meeting with history, we come with different emotions. Someone comes with increased pride, a little greater than usual. Someone accompanies it with concern for what will happen. Someone else with pain for what happened a little while ago. Someone with that great hope for what will come. But we have a common denominator.
We all come here with the great conviction that Albania absolutely needs the Democratic Party. That the citizens need a real, honest project for their lives and those of their families. And we must bring this to them. Albanians today are asking for our courage, Albanians want our determination, Albanians want our faith, Albanians want our hope. Therefore, dear friends, we must definitely start from this Assembly a new, unstoppable march, a march not for chairs, not at all, for services, not for revenge, but for justice. Not to divide up pieces of power, not at all, to return the state to the Albanians. Because, dear friends, we are fighting for freedom and for justice.
And know and do not forget, man from the moment he is born wants freedom and justice. Man when he grows up seeks freedom and justice. And man when he enters politics fights for freedom and justice. And if we who fight for freedom and justice abandon our fight, then we have surrendered freedom and justice. If we surrender freedom and justice, we have surrendered the opposition.
If we surrender the opposition, we have surrendered our destinies and those of our families, and if we have surrendered our family, we have surrendered our country. But we do not accept such a thing. We are fighters for freedom and justice.
And therefore, from this important, historic Assembly, we must come out with a strong message. A message that was said by the party leader: We are not here to defend our political survival, no, we are here to win. We are here to win not only the elections, we are here to win Albania and the Albanians. The time for excuses is over! The time for waiting is over! The time for apathy is over! It is time for organization, it is time for commitment, it is time for the fight for victory! God bless the Democratic Party, God bless Albania and the Albanians! Thank you!
