President Begaj called on political representatives to unite whenever it comes to the national interest and the protection of the rights of Albanians living in the Presheva Valley.
During the visit, the Head of State also participated in the opening ceremony of the Albanian Book Fair 2026 in Presheva, where he delivered a speech to the citizens.
In his speech, the President guaranteed Albania's support for addressing issues affecting the Albanians of the Presheva Valley, mentioning fair representation in institutions, concern for the passivation of addresses, as well as respect for the right to use the native language and national symbols.
"The rights and freedoms of Albanians in the Presheva Valley and wherever they live must be respected, Albanians must live here, not be discriminated against, the Albanian language must be used without shame or fear, culture, values, identity and traditions must be protected and promoted," said President Begaj.
He emphasized that Albanians are a factor of peace and cooperation in the Western Balkans, while he described the protection of the Albanian language and culture in the Presheva Valley as part of European standards for the protection of rights and cultural diversity.
"The Albanian identity is built on European values, on respect for freedom, human dignity, coexistence, the rule of law and the culture of dialogue. Therefore, the protection of the Albanian language and culture in the Presheva Valley is not a matter of nostalgia, it is not just a national issue, it is part of the European system of rights protection itself, it is part of our vision as a nation for the future," he declared.
The President also conveyed a special message to the young people of Presheva, asking them to see the Albanian language as a tool for education, professional development, and success.
"I have a message today for those children and young people present. You live in a time when knowledge is more accessible than ever before, but also when the challenge to preserve identity is even more complex. The Albanian language in these lands is a living and inalienable asset, it is a strategic investment for the future of the nation. Use the Albanian language not only as a family language and to preserve tradition, but also as the language of knowledge, profession, creativity and your success here in the Valley, because a language truly lives when it is written, read and when it creates knowledge and inspires generations," said Begaj.
In conclusion, the President pledged to continue to support the rights of Albanians of the Presevo Valley in international institutions and chancelleries.
"I want to assure you that the institution I represent will always remain a supporter of initiatives that strengthen cultural cooperation, promote books in the Albanian language, and create bridges of communication between Albanians wherever they live," he concluded.
