Trump negotiators meet with Putin, Don gathers staff at the White House

While a meeting has begun in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump has gathered the White House staff for a meeting.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said there was no time limit for talks between US negotiators and Putin, adding that they would talk "for as long as necessary."

In parallel, in Washington, President Donald Trump is meeting with members of his Cabinet at the White House.

The meeting comes as Putin signals he sees no need for concessions, dismissing prospects for progress and linking any ceasefire to Ukraine's withdrawal from unoccupied territory, a move that is unfavourable to Kiev.

Kirill Dmitriev, a top Russian economic negotiator, met with Witkoff earlier at Moscow's Vnukovo International Airport, Russian state media reported. Afterwards, the two walked together through central Moscow and had lunch at a local restaurant.

Zelensky said on December 2 that if talks with the Russian side continue smoothly, he could meet with the US president soon, although "everything depends on today's discussions."

"They want to report to us immediately after their meeting. I think the next steps will depend on these signals," he said, adding that he is ready to meet with Trump.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Witkoff would present Putin with the latest version of the US-Ukraine framework agreement, drafted during recent rounds of talks in Geneva and Florida.

These discussions were attended by Witkoff, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, who met with a Ukrainian delegation led by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov on November 30.
