Belgian police have raided EU diplomatic offices in Brussels and the College of Europe in Bruges as part of an investigation into suspected fraud related to the financing of low-level officials, resulting in the arrest of three senior officials, including EU Foreign Affairs Chief Federica Mogherini.
Moscow has not been slow to react to this, as it has attacked the EU following the corruption scandal.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova took the opportunity to accuse European institutions of hypocrisy.
" The EU turns a blind eye to its own corruption, but constantly lectures others, " Zakharova told the Tass agency.
She claimed that "millions of euros" have been flowing through corruption channels in Kiev to the EU for years, and that this is clear to everyone.
