Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has reacted to the closure of NIS (Oil Industry Refinery).
He said that there is still no good news, or a change of decision. Vučić stressed that he feels disappointed, adding that the Russians do not want to sell NIS.
"Regarding NIS, we do not have good news. We expected to receive a license to continue supplying from OFAC, but we did not receive a positive decision. Not only am I disappointed, but I am also surprised because I do not see what they gained from this. I tried to put myself in their shoes and see what they were doing, but I did not understand. It is clear that the Russians do not want to sell NIS ," Vučić said.
"This is their right, they are the owners. The other thing is that we have a lot of problems with it. Just like the Americans are not interested in anything other than their own interests. For the moment, only Serbia is suffering and we will see how it goes ," the Serbian president added.
Vučić also said that JANAF did not allow the import of oil that was not intended for the refinery in Pancevo, but for Serbian reserves.
"They didn't believe it was for storage, but for the NIS. They rejected it because they wanted to say that it wasn't just the NIS under sanctions, but all of Serbia is under sanctions, while the Americans said otherwise," he said.
The President of Serbia also said that the Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, will inform NIS that there are no indications that the US will grant a license and this will result in the closure of the refinery.
"They lose 370,000 euros a day while it's operating like this. It's their job when they want to close the refinery. We gave permission to close it," Vučić said, emphasizing that Serbia has enough fuel to avoid a crisis.
The refinery in Pancevo is set to officially cease operations today after several days of maintenance in the so-called warm circulation regime, as the US did not issue a license for NIS to continue operations.
