A spectacular robbery in just 7 minutes has taken place at the world's most famous museum, the Louvre, in Paris.
Individuals armed with cutting tools managed to enter the building and rob a priceless collection of royal jewelry, before escaping on motor scooters.
The perpetrators left behind a yellow vest with DNA traces near the scene, which is the main hope of French authorities for their identification.
According to the Paris Prosecutor, the robbers used a mobile lift to enter through a first-floor window and attacked the famous Apollo Hall, threatening the guards and breaking the display cases holding the jewelry.
Among the stolen items were a tiara with over 1,000 diamonds, a sapphire necklace and a set of jewelry belonging to Queens Marie-Amélie, Hortense and Eugénie.
Meanwhile, the robbers left the 140-carat "Régent" diamond untouched and abandoned another tiara with 1,354 diamonds and 56 emeralds during their escape.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez expressed optimism that the perpetrators and the stolen items will be found soon, while the Justice Minister said that the event paints a sad picture for France.
The Special Organized Crimes Brigade (BRB) is analyzing security camera footage and evidence left at the scene, including the DNA vest, a blanket, and the furniture lift that the perpetrators unsuccessfully attempted to burn.
President Emmanuel Macron reacted on the social network X, saying he hopes the stolen works are returned and the authors face justice.
The Louvre Museum remained closed on Monday as investigations continue intensively.
