"None of us should pressure Zelensky when it comes to territorial concessions."
This was stated by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on the social network "X".
Taking cue from US President Donald Trump's meeting with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, Tusk stressed that pressure must be put on Russia.
Earlier, Trump suggested that Zenesky should accept Russia's conditions to hand over the occupied territories, otherwise, Ukraine risks being destroyed by the Russians.
"We must all put pressure on Russia to stop its aggression. Appeasement has never been the path to a just and lasting peace," Tusk wrote.
US President Donald Trump has sparked international debate with his latest statements on the war in Ukraine, suggesting that the best way to end the conflict would be to divide the Donbas region so that most of it remains under Russian control.
"Let's wait as it is. Let them stop at the battle line, go home and stop killing people," Trump told reporters.
His comments came after a tense meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, where the Ukrainian leader had hoped to secure Tomahawk missiles, long-range weapons that would give Ukraine a strategic advantage against Russian forces. However, Zelensky left without any agreement.
"The Guardian" reports that during the meeting, Trump had pushed Zelensky to give up large territories in the east of the country, including Donetsk and Luhansk, in exchange for a partial Russian withdrawal from the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions.
According to the same sources, Trump was influenced by a long phone call with Vladimir Putin a few days ago, during which, as Washington writes, a territorial exchange that could bring quick peace to Ukraine was discussed.
Trump himself confirmed that he had spoken with Putin and announced that the two leaders are expected to meet soon in Budapest.
On the other hand, Zelensky reacted harshly, emphasizing that Ukraine will never agree to hand over territories to Russia.
"Ukraine will not give terrorists any rewards for their crimes. We rely on our partners to maintain this position," he wrote on social media.
The meeting in Washington comes at a time when hopes for an imminent end to the war are dim, while the positions between Trump, Putin and Zelensky are clearly showing a deep division over how peace can be achieved.
