NATO leaders reaffirmed on Wednesday their "unwavering commitment" to the Alliance's collective defense and unity, declaring that "an attack on one is an attack on all," in a statement adopted at the end of the summit held in Ankara.

The Ankara Summit Declaration stresses that member states remain committed to Article 5 of the Washington Treaty, the transatlantic bond and a 360-degree approach to deterrence and defence. The alliance describes "unity, solidarity and collective strength as the foundation of peace, security and prosperity" for its nearly one billion citizens.

Citing Russia as a long-term threat to Euro-Atlantic security and terrorism as a continuing challenge, the allies announced that European member states and Canada increased investments in core defense requirements by more than $139 billion last year.

The leaders also announced more than $50 billion in new defense procurement and committed to expanding joint military production capabilities, accelerating innovation in collaboration with industry, and removing barriers to trade in defense equipment among allied countries.

The declaration also foresees continued investment in advanced military capabilities, including high-precision strike systems, integrated air and missile defense, unmanned systems, intelligence, space and cyber capabilities, as well as the development of an interoperable transatlantic infrastructure for military operations and the use of artificial intelligence models.

On Ukraine, NATO stressed that allies remain united in "unwavering support" for the freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kiev. The alliance pledged to provide 70 billion euros ($80 billion) in military equipment, assistance and training through 2026, while member countries confirmed their commitment to maintaining at least the same level of support in 2027. The statement also welcomed the European Union's multi-year loan to support Ukraine.

At the end of the statement, the allies reiterated that Iran "must never have a nuclear weapon" and called on Tehran to fully respect freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The summit ended with thanks to Turkey for hosting this NATO meeting.
