According to a CNN report, the Pentagon has given Washington the green light to supply Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles.
The US-made long-range missiles are seen as a significant boost to Kiev's ability to counter Russia and strike deeper into the country.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously said that the idea of Ukraine having such weapons makes Vladimir Putin "nervous".
This comes after Ukraine's allies, including the United Kingdom, have talked in recent weeks about supplying them with more offensive capabilities.
However, a recent trip to the White House did not lead to Zelenskyy securing American missiles, as he reportedly hoped.
This is because the decision, says CNN, still rests with Donald Trump.
During that meeting last month, Trump said: "We don't want to give away things that we need to defend our country."
But CNN reports, citing US and European officials, that the Pentagon has assessed that there would be no negative impact on US reserves if they were to supply Ukraine, meaning that it depends on the US president.
