A serious rail accident occurred overnight in Munich, Germany, where a freight train derailed and fell from a bridge, leaving one person seriously injured.
According to German police, the incident occurred at around 01:40 in the Milbertshofen area, near Schleißheimer Straße. Two freight trains were maneuvering on the same railway segment when, for reasons that are still under investigation, they collided with each other.
The collision pushed one of the trains off the tracks and ended up falling off the bridge onto the road below. Emergency services arrived immediately at the scene, where they were faced with a serious and complex situation.
One person has serious injuries and is in critical condition, authorities confirmed. Meanwhile, investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Police said the train's cargo did not contain any hazardous materials, ruling out any threat to local residents. There is still no detailed information on the type of goods being transported.
The operation to remove the damaged wagons is expected to be complex and lengthy. Authorities have not yet given a deadline for when the intervention will be completed, while some roads in the area may remain blocked even on Sunday.
According to the railway company Deutsche Bahn, the segment where the accident occurred is used exclusively by freight trains, so no impacts on passenger train traffic are expected.
